Cancer-Fighting Compounds in Onions Consuming Allium vegetables, such as garlic and onions, has been linked to a reduced incidence of some cancers, including stomach and colorectal cancer. According to a study of 26 studies, people who ate the most allium vegetables were 22% less likely to be diagnosed with stomach cancer than someone who consumed the least number.

Eating onions may aid in blood sugar control, which is particularly important for people with diabetes or prediabetes. A survey of 42 people with type 2 diabetes found that consuming 3.5 ounces (100 grams) of fresh red onion after four hours decreased fasting blood sugar levels by around 40 mg/dl.

Onions Have the Potential to Increase Bone Density, While dairy is commonly credited with improving bone health, many other foods, including onions, may also lead to strong bones. An analysis of 24 middle-aged and postmenopausal women found that anyone who drank 3.4 ounces (100 ml) of onion juice every day for eight weeks had more bone mineral density and antioxidant activity than a control group.
