Drip Irrigation

Drip irrigation is one of the water management systems which seeks to use water in a way that provides crops and animals the amount of water they need, enhances productivity, and conserves natural resources for the benefit of downstream users and ecosystem services.


The concept of drip irrigation falls into the lines of precision farming the most effective way to grow, save water and empower farmers to grow in a more sustainable way that’s also more profitable for them.


Drip irrigation, also known as trickling irrigation, is a form of micro-irrigation system that allows water to drip gently to the roots of plants from above the soil surface or buried below the surface, potentially saving water and nutrients. The objective is to get as much water as possible into the root zone while reducing evaporation. Drip irrigation systems use a network of valves, pipes, tubing, and emitters to deliver water.

How does it work?

Driplines, which include emitters known as drippers, transport water and nutrients throughout the field. Each dripper releases water and fertilizer-containing droplets, resulting in a consistent distribution of water and nutrients to each plant's root zone over an entire field.


Driplines can be placed on the surface or beneath the ground. Drippers are placed at a certain interval along the dripline. The crop's needs, plant spacing, and the breadth and depth-wetting ratio established by the soil's physical characteristics all influence this spacing. The dripper is chosen with a flow rate that is appropriate for the crop and circumstances.


Drip irrigation was first introduced to the global irrigation business in the 1960s, and since then, tremendous advances in drip technology have been made. Drippers are now intended to deal with issues including sloping fields, poor water quality, root incursion, and more.

The reason is simple. It does not only deliver a greater return on investment than other irrigation methods, but it also gives farmers an efficient and simple way to operate their farms and results in:
